On Saturday. January 27, 2007, several members participated in the 11th annual Polar Bear Plunge, to benefit the Special Olympics of Maryland. The group, while not officially recognized as a team, raised in excess of $600 for the Special Olympics.

Shortly after 2PM, when the official plunge began, the team members crashed into the Chesapeake Bay's surf, where they stayed for just over 7 and a half minutes. While common sense would not recommend plunging half naked into 38 degree (F) water, this was for a good cause. Initially, an informal wager had arisen within the group, but it was called off when everyone walked out of the Bay together.

All in all, the Plunge is reported to have raised over a million and a half dollars for Special Olympics of Maryland, and the LVFD members were proud to be a part of this effort.

Plunging were Victor Castillo, Brian Cavanaugh, Megan Skarzynski, Greg and Alyssa Meisenheimer, Sarah Cavanaugh, Chris Stanton, and Cathy and Tim Thaxton.
