View from the side and front of 9037 Contee Rd. February 20, 2003. Just after 6pm, firefighters were called to 9037 Contee Road for fire reported in the walls of the apartment building. Units approaching the scene reported smoke showing from the complex. On arrival, fire was evident coming from the roof of the building. As the crew from Squad 49 was opening up, the crew from Engine 102 stretched the 400 ft. apartment line to the third floor. Heavy fire had extended into the cockloft of the 3 story garden style apartment building. The fire originated in the furnace room of an apartment on the third floor. A second alarm was called just after arrival of the first units, however, the second alarm units were staged and not used. The fire was quickly extinguished by Engine 102's crew with the remainder of the first alarm companies being held for extensive overhaul. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.
