Feb. 24, 2001. At 1:26pm, Laurel Firefighters responded to a reported building fire with people trapped at 118 Washington Blvd. (Rt.1). First arriving units reported fire showing from the ground floor room with the possibility of people trapped in the room above. Crews from Laurel Fire Department, Laurel Rescue Squad, and Beltsville Fire Department quickly searched the building and found all occupants had escaped safely. Crews quickly knocked down the fire which began in a ground floor room and extended to the room above. Laurel Fire Chief Bryan Lau had command of the incident which brought over 50 firefighters to the scene.
