April 12, 2001. Firefighters were called to 9719 Muirkirk Rd. for a reported apartment building on fire. First arriving units were greeted with heavy fire showing from the ground floor apartment and extending up the front of the building to the roof. The crew from the first arriving Engine (Engine 102) advanced a hand line into the ground floor apartment while the crew from Engine 101 took a line to the second floor. Engine 412 (Calverton) completed the attack by taking a line to the 3rd floor. A task force alarm and a second alarm were called for shortly after incident commander battalion chief 6 arrived on the scene, however, all second alarm units were staged and then later released. Command held the first alarm and the task force for overhaul.
The occupant of the fire apartment was injured while escaping his burning apartment. His injuries were non life threatening. There were no firefighter injuries reported.
