May 22, 2003:  Just after 3:30pm a passerby walked into Station 49 reporting a fire in the apartment building just across the street at 14807 Bowie Rd.  First units arriving on the scene found heavy smoke coming from the 3 story garden style apartment building.  The fire, which reportedly started in the basement laundry room, quickly spread to the upper floors and the cock loft.  A second alarm was called for additional staffing to help with the extensive overhaul needed to extinguish the fire which traveled the walls of all three floors.  Some extension to the adjoining building (14809) was reported but quickly extinguished.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Last units left the scene around 7:30pm.
