Working Fire On 8th St.  2nd Alarm Sounded
September 24, 2003.  At 1335hrs companies were dispatched to a reported apartment fire at 809 8th St. in Laurel.  First arriving engine, E101, encountered fire showing from the windows of a second floor apartment of a three story garden apartment building.  E101 quickly advanced an attack line to the fire apartment and darkened the bulk of the fire.  However, the fire had already extended to the cock loft.  Next arriving companies pulled ceilings in both the fire building and the adjoining exposure buildings to extinguish the fire involving the cock loft and the roof.  A fire task force and the second alarm was called for extra manpower.  The fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in an apartment on the second floor.  One fire fighter was injured and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
