December 17th,
2001. Fire broke out at 1am in a 3 story garden apartment building
on 8th St. The building at 811 8th St. sustained moderate to heavy
damage when fire traveled between the floors and walls. The initial
report was for smoke in a first floor apartment. Engine 103, first
to arrive on the scene, found smoke coming from the second and third floors
along with the eaves and roof. Once in the building the crew
encountered fire in the walls with extension to several rooms. Extensive
overhaul was needed to expose all of the fire in the walls and ceilings.
Two additional truck companies were dispatched to assist. No injuries
were reported and companies cleared the scene around 5am.
