Chimney Fire - Smoke billows
from chimney at 659 Main St.
Oct. 10, 2001. Laurel Firefighters responded to 12 calls, 2 being working fires, on Wednesday. The first working fire was at 3:15pm for a bedroom fire in a townhouse at 9018 Cherry Lane. Arriving units found smoke showing from the upstairs bedroom. Companies quickly extinguished the fire. Click here to listen to the operation.
The second fire occurred four hours later at the Red Hot & Blue building at 659 Main St. Several calls were received for fire coming from the roof of the building. First units on the scene found fire shooting from the chimney. The building, which houses two restaurants and several other businesses, was evacuated. Firefighters determined the fire was contained to the chimney which is used by Red Hot & Blue. The fire was quickly extinguished with extensive overhaul was necessary for smoke removal.Click here to listen to operation.
