Story by Phil Clinard LVFD

Jan. 1, 2001.  Due to a house explosion in Hillandale, Laurel Tower 10 transfered to Montgomery County Station 15 (Burtonsville VFD), which had its truck and rescue squad on that incident. Later, a third alarm fire in Gaithersburg drew more resources making Tower 10 one of the few trucks covering eastern and southeastern Montgomery County. It was then that the station was alerted for a box alarm. Responding with Engine 151, Tower 10's crew could see smoke shortly after turning out of the firehouse. They arrived to find a middle unit townhome with heavy smoke rolling from the second story. The crew threw ground ladders and prepared the tower for aerial operations as the engine crew made an interior attack. Firefighters were soon ordered out as the fire raced through the unit. The blaze gutted the townhome, to include the roof as well as major portions of the unit next door with other homes sustaining smoke damage. Engine 102, and Chief 10B also responded as well as units from Laurel Rescue, Beltsville, Howard Co. 11 (Scaggsville) and additional Burtonsville members.
