January 2, 2002. 2001 goes down in the history books as the most calls ever run for one year for the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department. The total number of calls were 3,679 from January 1, 2001 until December 31, 2001. For 2000, total calls were 3,279 which was up from 1999's 3,060. In 8 days from Christmas eve (Dec. 24th) until new year's eve (Dec. 31) the LVFD ran 97 calls.

Of those 97 calls, 3 were working fires. Dec. 27th Tower 10 assisted Beltsville units on a working house fire at 4106 Stoconga Dr. The next day fire broke out at 12314 Sea Pearl Ct. in Laurel. Arriving units found a 3 story end unit townhouse with fire through the roof. On new years eve, Tower 10 and Engine 103 responded to assist Howard County (Scaggsville) for a working house fire. On the first day of the new year, the LVFD responded to 7 calls one of which was a working fire. Tower 10 was dispatched on a two alarm fire in Columbia (Howard Co.) for an apartment building fire.
