LVFD & Home Depot Kickoff Fire Prevention Week

Story by Asst. Chief Burt Clark
October 4, 2003.  The LVFD Fire Safety Team featuring Hector the Fire Safety Clown and Teddy the Fire Safety Bear join the Home Depot Kids Fire Safety workshop for a Saturday afternoon of building and learning.  Home Depot Kids Workshop Captains Christian Doukas and Teresa Javier explain that Fire Prevention was the theme for their sidewalk event.  The store supplied wooden fire truck building kits, hammers, safety goggles, sandpaper, and paint free of charge to over 100 families.  Hector and Teddy taught important lessons about smoke detectors, stop-drop & roll, and 2 ways out.  Supporting the event were Home Depot Safety Captains Simone Dauphine and Angie Clark and LVFD Lt. Phil Clinard, firefighters Mya Thaxton, Mike Crotts and Asst. Chief Burt Clark.

Kevin McWilliams and Sydney McWillams (age 9) of Laurel enjoy the fire truck building and fire safety learning with the help of Hector.  Note the examples of excellent wooden fire trucks.
