Operations

Regular Member

Join the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department as a Regular Member by being over 18 and willing to train as a Firefighter and/or EMT. This role requires passing a background check and physical, meeting annual participation criteria, completing a 12-month probation, and achieving Firefighter I or EMT-B certification within 18 months, and both within 30 months. A live-in program is also available for Regular Members.

Operations

EMS Only Member

Since acquiring an ambulance, the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department is keenly seeking individuals passionate about Emergency Medical Service (EMS). Join our EMS team and embark on a fulfilling journey, starting with a 12-month probationary period, leading to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within your first 18 months. Rest assured, your focus will be solely on EMS duties, with no firefighting responsibilities.

Operations/Administrative Support

Junior Member

To join as a Junior Member at Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, you need to be aged 16-18 with parental consent, can train in firefighting and engage in exterior firefighting activities, but are restricted from interior firefighting or hazardous duties. Junior Members must also maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA or be employed full-time to participate in department activities.

Administrative Support

Administrative Member

The Administrative class at Laurel Volunteer Fire Department consists of members who contribute vital skills and services to the company without engaging in firefighting. These members undergo a 6-month probationary period and must meet annual participation standards, which can be achieved by acquiring skills in areas such as report writing, data entry, map development, fundraising, building/grounds maintenance, apparatus maintenance, and more. Other Distinguished Membership Types

Life Membership

Awarded to Regular or Administrative members after 25 years of service, provided they've met all service requirements. Life Members enjoy full department privileges, eligibility for monthly rewards after age 60, and are not required to meet further service requirements. Their ongoing support and service are highly encouraged. This membership is a mark of distinction and cannot be applied for.

Honorary Membership

Bestowed in recognition of significant financial or substantial support to the department. Honorary Membership is an honor given to valued supporters, symbolizing appreciation and acknowledgment of their contributions. It cannot be applied for and is solely granted based on the department's discretion.

Life Honorary Membership

Granted by the company in recognition of extraordinary service to both the company and the community. Life Honorary Membership is a prestigious acknowledgment, awarded to individuals who have made impactful contributions. This membership is not available for application but is conferred as a sign of high esteem and gratitude.
