Area Elementary Schools Participate in Fire Prevention Poster Contest

Bond Mill Elementary student and his grandmother present gift to LVFD Chief Lau

Oct. 28, 2001.  Every year at the LVFD's open house, the Laurel Fire Department Auxiliary presents awards to the students who create the best fire prevention posters.  This year's ceremony began on a different note.  A student and his grandmother began the program by presenting LVFD's Chief Bryan Lau with a gift to honor firefighters who were involved with the events of September 11th.  A basket full of patriotic refrigerator magnet note holders were given to the LVFD.  The holders were made by the students of Bond Mill Elementary School in West Laurel.  The LVFD kitchen has two large refrigerators so the holders will be put to good use.

The Auxiliary had a very difficult job judging hundreds of very good posters.  Students in grades 1 through 6 submitted posters to be judged.  Below are the winners organized by school.  Click on the small picture to see the full picture.
