Firefighter Adam McConnell
greets visitors in his role as "Friendly Firefighter"
Oct. 28, 2001. Laurel Fire Department's annual open house was held on Sunday bringing hundreds of Laurel area residents to the firehouse. This year's open house featured activities for all ages. Youngsters were given a check list of activities to complete to receive a "fire safety fun bag". Activities included Stop Drop & Roll, Friendly Firefighter, 911, and smoke detectors. Laurel Police's D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer provided an interactive presentation for both parents and kids. The Laurel Fire Department Auxiliary awarded the top fire prevention posters submitted by area elementary schools. Home Depot of Laurel donated several fire extinguishers for use in the live stove fire demonstrations. To end the day, LVFD's own Hector The Fire Safety Clown performed a fire safety magic show.
