2nd Alarm 13913 Briarwood Dr - Laurel

Just before 8:30pm on Saturday June 18th, the box alarm was sounded for an apartment building on fire in the area of Briarwood Drive and Laurel Bowie Rd (Rt.197).  Rescue Engine 49 (Laurel Rescue) arrived first to find a 3-story garden style apartment building with fire showing.  Chief 10A (Grant) established command and reported fire through the roof and requested a 2nd alarm.  Tower 10 arrived on side "Alpha" (front) and was assigned ladders and search.  Initially there were reports of people trapped in the building.  Tower 10's crew performed a quick search and confirmed all residents were out of the building.  The crew from Rescue Engine 49 initiated an interior attack on the third floor.  Due to deteriorating conditions, crew were pulled out of the building and master streams were deployed.  Tower 10 darkened down the fire and crews returned to interior operations to mop up the remaining fire.  One firefighter was injured and transported to the hospital.  He was released the next day.  Company 10 operated with Tower 10, Engine 103, Chief 10A and Chief 10B (Brown).  Additional photos here:  http://jpcphotography.smugmug.com/Fire-Photos/2nd-Alarm-13913-Briarwood-Dr/
